Another Beautiful Weekend - But No Fish….

Posted in Fishing Site News

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

For those of you that got out on Puget Sound this last weekend, you know that it was the nicest weather we have seen all year.  After weeks of on again, off again small craft advisories it was a great change of pace.

Only problem we ran into was no fish.  We even had the State boat swing by and talk to us, and they hadn’t seen any fish come in out of area 9.  Oh well, it was a good day to be out drinking beer and BSing with the guys and bitching about the women folk.  Not that any of our women give us reason to complain….

You should see another video from us next week.  Part 2 of the ICAST show will be coming out.  After that, I have no idea what is up next!

Very un-exciting Janurary for fishing.

Posted in Fishing Site News

I know some of you fishing fiends are out there catching fish, but it sure has been a rough one weather wise for being out there.  The Puget Sound area has had ice, snow, rain, wind and cold almost back to back for the last few weeks.  Except of course on the days I couldn’t break away to go fishing so it was sunny and beautiful.

Oh well, February is coming and things will get better.  Watch for part two of our video from ICAST, and hopefully we will get out and get some more fishing video shot!

Dammit, our last boat knife broke!

Posted in Fishing Site News

I was wandering through the store yesterday pondering what all I needed to pick up to go fishing next weekend, and realized that our old trusty deck knife had cleanly broken off at the handle the last time we were out.  Apparently there was too much salt in the herring for it to handle.

It was a good old knife, you know the kind with the varnished wooden handle that always gets crackled and nasty.  But now we need a replacement knife for out on the boat.  So I put out a call to any knife manufacturers for sponsors.  Want a cheap way to get your knives on the web, in our shows and (not quite literally) in our hearts and mouths?  Let us know you are interested in sponsoring our show with a couple of your products.  Pretty simple, you give us a couple knives to use, and we will make sure that the world knows about it.

Be sure to send us a note, or comment on this post if you are interested because it is pretty much first come, first served!

A thank you to our fans!

Posted in Fishing Site News

Thomas and I are gearing up to head out to ICAST 2007, but I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks to all our fans that make this show worth doing.  Not everyone loves our show, shocking I know, but I woke up this morning to a comment posted on one of our videos on YouTube and it  really hit home.

“I like watchin your vids-always make me laugh, but interesting at the same time cuz you remind me of like exactly of me and my buddy fishin! minus the beer lol”
randall1944

This is exactly what we love to hear!  So to all of you that visit the site regularly and have our videos bookmarked on your favorite video sites, thanks for watching and stay tuned because there is lots more fun coming up!

More fishing videos! Rainbow Trout on Lake Ballinger.

Posted in Fishing Site News, Rainbow Trout

Finally put up the video of Thomas and I on Lake Ballinger doing some early Summer Rainbow Trout fishing.   We were up early and on the lake at sunrise, which I think is the best time to be fishing.   I think sunset is better time from a purely fishing aspect, but I like mornings because no one else is out and about!

Drunken Thomas fishing for Rainbow Trout on Lake Ballinger

If you aren’t familiar with the lake, it is a pretty good size urban lake on the border of King and Snohomish counties and is primarily fished for the stocked Rainbow Trout.  Word is that there are Bass and Perch in it too, but I have yet to see much proof of that.   We have a write up on it on our site at: http://fishingwithcliff.com/PlacesFished/Ballinger/index.htm

Nothing too fancy in the technique, just dragging some small floating and suspending plugs right along the surface.  Seems to work every time with the planters, at least at sunrise and sunset.  I think the cross lighting is key for this technique.  Too much light and they get blinded by the light, but just a little highlights the lure and they pound it!

If you haven’t already gone over and seen it, visit the site at http://www.fishingwithcliff.com/ today and check it out!

We also have our latest video ‘Lake Ballinger Rainbow Trout Fishing’ up on the site now, so drop by and check it out if you have a minute.   Lots of great fish catching action, and I even manage to hook myself!

Fishing with Cliff is Attending ICAST 2007!

Posted in Fishing Site News

ICAST 2007 if right around the corner and we are going to be there!

For those of you that haven’t heard, the ICAST convention is the largest sport fishing show in the country and this is it’s 50th anniversary!  So it seems only fitting that the Fishing with Cliff crew heads down to Vegas to cover all the action.  This year there will be over 1,300 booths across 350,000 square feet of floor space with 400 exhibitors showing off their new products and fishing tackle.  Much of what is shown here will be the hot items of 2008.

Fishing with Cliff will do several episodes on the show, and bring you information on what is hot and new for fishing in the Northwest.  So you can look forward to several of our videos, blog posts and articles.  We are currenlty looking for sponsors for our coverage of the ICAST convention so if your company would like to have us plug your products in our down to earth and honest way please contact us.  We are offering two levels of sponsorship for this series of videos, posts and articles.  Our premium sponsorship level is an affordable $250.00 and that gives you credits at the front and back of every episode we shoot for ICAST, as well as premium placement and commentary in our articles, blog posts and other written material.  For a very reasonable $100.00, you can still get your product mentioned in the credits for our show and listed on our articles and blog.  Either way you will get seen and have the backing of the Fishing with Cliff crew.

If you are intersted in securing a sponsorship spot, please contact us at Cliff@fishingwithcliff.com

For those of you that are stuck fishing from shore, we just added a short article to get you going on catching Rainbow Trout in our article section.

Washington State really makes a point of providing boatless anglers many opportunities to fish for Rainbow Trout on the lakes in and around most cities.  They are stocked at least yearly and provide a lot of fun fishing.  Take a ready through the article and then get out and go fishing!
