Cliff
I was just reading up on the fishing down in Oregon, and it looks like the Steelhead and Coho are the way to go if you are looking for something to fish for this weekend. According to Oregon Fish and Game:
More winter steelhead have entered area rivers with the little batch of rain last week. Look for fish numbers to be increasing in the coming week, with improving angling prospects. Streams such as Big Creek, North Fork Nehalem, Wilson River, and Nestucca River offer good opportunities.
The county boat launch at Netarts Bay is scheduled for maintenance work Dec. 15-18. The ramp will be closed during this period.
The seasonal coho fisheries on Siltcoos and Tahkenitch lakes offer an unusual opportunity to fish for wild coho salmon. Fishing is currently good as large numbers of coho have been returning to the lakes recently. The fishery is expected to remain productive over the next couple weeks. More fishing news from Oregon
Now I am unlikely to get a chance to drive down there and test out the waters, but get your butt up out of bed in the morning and get out there! If you catch something good, come back and give us a shout!
Everyone knows that you have to put in your time when you are fishing for Steelhead, and anyone knows that the Fishing with Cliff crew is a little slow when it comes to actually catching fish. That is why I was so surprised when I was out Steelhead fishing at Reiter Ponds on the Skykomish Saturday, something actually grabbed my line! If you don’t know where that is, I just put it on our Fishing Map!
OK, so it isn’t the biggest Steelhead anyone has ever caught, but at least it was a fish, it broke a long streak of not catching anything and it took my Steelhead virginity!
So while it was a long time coming, landing this 6# plus hatchery hen was definitely the high point of my weekend. What did the trick for me was one of the new spinners from WyldEdge that I just got in.
The WyldEdge Spinner I was using!
So there you have it, one more fish in the bucket, and now I have something more to pick on Thomas about. Heh…
I don’t know what river this guy was on, but he managed to land a pretty decent Steelhead, only to have his rod blow out right at the last second. Should I congratulate him on bringing the fish in on an undersized rod, or point and laugh at his choice of Steelhead fishing equipment. You make the call!
